1. INTRODUCTION

Curiosity is defined as the strong need to explore hidden things and fill knowledge gaps to understand the world [1]. It is a natural human instinct and an important need, similar to other basic human needs, this innate motivation serves as a biological motivator that pushes us to learn more and adapt to new situations [2]. Throughout history, scientific development did not happen by chance but has been the direct result of passion that turned simple questions into major discoveries that changed our understanding [3]. Therefore, curiosity is not just a secondary personal trait, but the foundation of every discovery, without asking why and how, creative solutions would remain hidden in the unknown [4].

2. HOW CURIOSITY SHAPES THINKING AND LEARNING

This mindset functions as a transformative force that changes a person from a passive receiver to an active explorer, enabling them to see the world through constant questioning [5]. Instead of relying only on memorization, it pushes individuals to explore freely, making learning more enjoyable and meaningful [6]. This strong desire to investigate details helps build deeper understanding beyond surface-level information, and on a neural level, connecting new questions with previous knowledge allows the brain to form more complex thinking [7]. Furthermore, such inquiry expands thinking into a more organized, solution-oriented approach while fostering open-mindedness, making the individual more flexible in accepting new ideas and less attached to rigid thinking, which increases opportunities for creativity [8].

3. CURIOSITY AS A DRIVER OF INNOVATION

Innovation does not start with ready answers; instead, it begins with asking unusual questions that challenge current ideas and break traditional thinking [9]. When we question common assumptions, searching for answers reveals different ways to reach correct solutions, showing that complex problems require deeper thinking [10]. This process follows a clear path: curiosity leads to experimentation, then discovery, and finally innovation [11]. This can be seen in important fields such as technology, healthcare, and scientific research. For example, Alexander Fleming’s curious observations of a moldy Petri dish led to the discovery of penicillin, which revolutionised modern medicine. With constant exploration, what seemed impossible has become reality and continues to guide future progress [12].

4. CONCLUSION

Curiosity is the fundamental engine that drives human progress from simple ideas to impactful solutions. Questioning is central to tomorrow’s new innovations and complex challenges as it shapes how we learn, encourages flexible thinking and drives scientific experimentation.
